NOSSTIA is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) established with the objectives of enabling Syrian specialists working in the developed countries to actively contribute to the transfer of advanced scientific and technological knowledge to their homeland, providing vocational and academic training to Syrians working in various fields of specialization corresponding to those of the Syrian scientists abroad and bypassing the brain drain phenomena  by benefiting from the knowledge and expertise offered by expatriate Syrians through establishing strong ties with their motherland, and activating interaction and cooperation between them and their country's scientific and technical institutions.

Is a non-for-profit group of volunteers didcated to the promotion and advocacy of the Free and Open Source Software philosophy in Syria. The group provides support for users and organizations adpoting the Free and Open Source Software and conduct continuous training activites and awareness workshops and programmes.

Syrian GNU/Linux Users Group is an active player in the arabization efforts of Free and Open Source Software.
