Biography


Mohammad Khansari is the director of Persian Linux project at Advanced Information and Communication Technology Center (AICTC) of Sharif University from Jan. 2003 (start of the project). At the same time, he is a PhD candidate at Computer Eng. Department at Sharif University of Technology. He has more than 10 years working experience with Linux. He has two years administration experience

with Beowulf architecture, a clustered Linux system for research in parallel processing. He was also Solaris and Informix database administrator and X Window programmer for more than three years. He and Prof. Dr. Rabiee are the starters of the Linux localization and National Operating System project based on Linux in Iran at the government level from Jan 2001.

Linux localization to Middle East languages: Iran experience

Iran has selected Linux as the base for the development of a National Operating System as many other countries. Middle East languages have many things in common. In this lecture a general overview of Iran activities in localizing Linux for Persian language is presented. It begins with explaining the history of project. Then, it covers the reasons for selecting Linux, short- and long-term goals of the project, development methodology and obstacles of the project progress. The lecture also talks about culture and human resource building approach for promoting Linux in Iran. It concludes with stating the current status and the future plan of the project.
